The Right Diet Can Save Your Body & Skin

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wished you had Beyonce's skin instead? I believe that everyone should be confident in the skin (be it good or bad) that God gave them. I am an African American female who too has skin issues (oily, acne prone, uneven tone) but I have began to look on the "BRIGHTER" side and learn more about my skin and what it needs. I will go over my skin care routine that includes not only products to use and how to use them, but how diet plays a major factor in the condition of your skin. Follow my routine and get the healthy complexion you've always wanted...

Skin care begins on the INSIDE

The skin is the largest organ of the human body. Also know as the Integumentary System , skin is composed of 3 layers: the Epidermis (top layer), the Dermis or "true skin" and finally the Hypodermis or "bottom layer". As a Health Care professional, I know that a healthy, balanced diet results in a healthier feeling you. Lets explore somethings you can do, when making food choices, that will benefit your skin as well as your body:

1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! Drink plenty of water to help flush toxins from the kidneys and impurities from the skin. We all know the saying "drink 8 glasses a day" but please not all at once!

2. From the Garden to the Table! When making food choices, always think color! Incorporate at least 2 servings of vegetables or fruit at lunch and dinner. The best choices that would promote healthy skin are carrots, broccoli, spinach, lettuce, beets, tomatoes and any fruit containing Vitamin C!

3. Bye, Bye Crisco! Eliminate fried, greasy choices and instead opt for baked chicken, fish, or red meat of your choice. If you have to choice fried, use peanut oil. (*protein is good for you*)

4. I'll miss you Sugar Chocolate does not cause acne...but a lot of sugar is not good for you. Not only does it cause weight gain, but it also causes your blood sugar to rise thus increasing inflammation of the skin. Reduce your sugar and high carb intake and eat more protein instead!

5. Supplement! You can go to any drug store and find a selection of vitamin and nutrient supplements that will promote a healthier you. My choice is Nature Made Hair, Skin and Nails found at Wal-Mart.

Make sure to exercise regularly along with the steps I have given you. You will promote a healthier looking and feeling you in no time!
